Tesco magazine Mum of the Year Awards

This is a big one for us and planning for this annual awards ceremony takes months. It’s an incredibly rewarding project to be involved with, but it’s immensely hard work, too, as there are so many details that we have to – and want to – get just right. As we don’t want to bore you unduly, we’ll give you the edited highlights of what we do.

In addition to providing consultancy on the competition side of the nomination process and providing independent judges to shortlist the thousands of entries, Spark & Fuse handle all the logistics for the venue (this year it was the Waldorf Hilton in London’s Aldwych), the celebrity who hosts the ceremony (Fiona Phillips was perfect) as well as all the catering for the guests and crew. We also put a great deal of effort into finding an event production company that will really deliver. It is vital that we get the right people for every element of the event, because we know we have to work closely with them particularly when it comes to the budget.

We co-ordinate the travel and overnight accommodation for over a hundred people, as well as putting together gift bags for everyone and arranging presents for all the children who come along.

It’s really important that this is an experience award-winning mums will never forget, so from the Saturday morning when they arrive until the Monday afternoon when they leave, we ensure they’re treated like royalty. This year we not only arranged for Sarah Brown, the Prime Minister’s wife, to be a judge and for Gordon Brown to present an award, but we also fixed up a special reception for the mums at 10 Downing Street.

From overseeing the guest list (including the celebrities) to making sure there are fresh flowers on the tables, we pull all this off every year because we’re incredibly dedicated, well organised and efficient. We love schedules. In fact, if you work with us on an event like Mum of the Year or, equally, something similar but on a more modest scale, we can guarantee you’ll never want to see another timeline again!
